ZigZagZurich x MoonishCo - Brooklyn Heads to Zurich
Our latest artist collaboration to be announced is the Brooklyn duo of Moonish. The work of Matt and Giovanna caught our attention in its simplicity and beauty and how it had been applied within their studio reportage. Moonish works covers an array of work and applications - from hand crafted wall tiles to lighting, wallpaper and beyond. The wall tiles and the artwork they create have been featured in the press around the world, recognised by the likes of Architectural Digest, Interior Design magazine and beyond. The duo current are showing at the Triode Paris show here
The first items to launch in the ZigZagZurich x Moonish collection are based on two themes of work:

Matt Taylor: Musician, designer
Giovanna Masseroni: Visual artist, designer
Where do you live?
What do you do?
Think, make, think…
Who & what inspires you?
Something from the past, an echo, inductive thought by association. Simplicity of lines and materials. Symmetry
What doesn’t inspire you?
What projects have you been recently working on?
We’ve been working mostly with our wall tiles: a restaurant project in Brooklyn, a custom residential building project in Brooklyn, a high end residential project in NY. Developing new ideas and formats for our line
What projects in your lifetime have the most significance in both of your work?
Matt and I were both into photography at different times in our lives. Moonish expresses a darkroom sensibility in all its designs. Actually our brand name is a reference to Sarah Moon’s work
Where is design & art heading?
Responsibility, reusability, multifunctionality, modularity. Reinventing how people are going to live and work. Thinking in terms of beauty and design on large scale. Art integrated with engineering as a means to redefine the world we live in.
What’s wrong with design?
Too many new products, with too much repetition. Less objects are needed and those produced must be useful, durable and can be manufactured in a resource efficient, responsible and economical way.
Who do you think are the most innovative designers in recent years?
Jason Miller, Jasper Morrison, Muller Van Severen
What artists and designers have inspired you in your lifetime?
In no specific order: The Zero movement, Donald Judd, Andy Warhol, Bruno Munari, the Eames, Agnes Martin, Dan Flavin, Anish Kapoor, Massimo & Lella Vignelli
