Freestyle Embroidery - Carmen Boog x DJ LeoZero x ZigZagZurich

Freestyle Embroidery - Carmen Boog x DJ LeoZero x ZigZagZurich-ZigZagZurich

A project that has been in the making for some time between two artists, Carmen Boog and Leo Zero aka Leo Elstob, these unique Embroidery Dances are a culmination of the freestyle embroidery of Carmen Boog and the soundtrack to which Leo Zero lays down the beats to the performance.

From chilled to chaotic, eclectic to balearic, the musical journey mixes with the movement of the machine, each art piece being created as the music flows.

This is what we call Freestyle Embroidery, and were delighted to present this project on a global basis.  For specific custom projects please contact us directly for this work at sales at zigzagzurich dot com

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Carmen Boog - Loves to dance, destroy fabrics & paint with a needle.

The Swiss textile designer Carmen Boog, lives and works in Lucerne, Switzerland. During her studies she has discovered her passion for thoughtless, intuitive work. She began without designing, to embroider pictures on textiles, abstract landscapes, which functioned both as an image, as well as a surface pattern or basis. "Embroidering with the Lorrine machine is fascinating, because you do not have time to think, you always have to follow the needle and keep the fabric under tight control. Forms and compositions appear, which only you perceive when taking the fabric off the machine. This is the magical moment where you can surprise yourself. : -) "

To expose herself fully to one technique fascinates Carmen. She loves to let something happen and to respond to it. To support her work, she applies different methods. For example, there is a technique she calls music improvisation. The music gives a feeling and vibration, which she uses live to create shapes and patterns. "As nothing can be planned the creation process uses so much free energy. It has to flow from the mind to the fingers and through the body." Therefore every single piece of work is unique. To be able to reproduce her artistic work, she uses printing techniques.

Her bleached artworks, which are digitally transformed, became the basis for her bedding collection for ZigZagZurich. And her unique embroidered one of a kind cushions are a special collection across both cork fabric and a denim fabric in different colours.

Leo Zero AKA Leo Elstob for ZigZagZurich

The magical music producer, DJ, artist and general all round nice guy.

Dj, Producer & Remixer Leo Zero works from his London studio on a variety of music and art projects: from remixes for global artist like Madonna, Florence The machine, Bryan Ferry & Paul Weller to underground club tracks on his Leo Trax label, and a countless re-edits and re-works which he spins on the Comsic Disco / Balearic circuit as a DJ worldwide.

Graduating from Art College in the early 90s, Leo was already honing his production skills, after becoming addicted to all things Balearic and Acid in seminal clubs such as Shoom, Spectrum, and the infamous Boy’s Own parties.

Leo soon became a one-stop shop for not only great music, and remixes, but also for graphic design specialising in flyer/sleeve design – working with Junior Boys Own, Heavenly Records, Electric Stew, Dazed & Confused, and Time Out, as well as exhibiting at Jam at the Barbican, and helping to put together books on flyer design for Thames & Hudson, amongst others.

In the mid 90s Leo was a main player in Chicane . Chicane’s debut album was a huge hit, but a taste of pop stardom was enough to send Leo back to a sweaty basement to create the legendary deep house club ‘Soulsonic’ with Stuart Patterson. Hosting parties all over the globe from Ibiza to Miami, via Ladbroke Grove – for Vivienne Westwood, and Alexander McQueen amongst many others -they rocked dance-floors with no compromise.

With over 20 plus years designing artwork in and around the music industry amongst other art projects, Leo has become a figure in London’s elite graphic design community.

His first designs for ZigZagZurich are inspired by his roots in music – enjoy the jive !
