Clare Goodwin, born in Birmingham, England, in 1973, is a renowned artist known for her exploration of 'Constructive Nostalgia.' She earned an MA in painting from the Royal College of Art in London in 1998. Since the early 2000s, she has lived and worked in Zurich, Switzerland, where she has developed a unique approach to abstract, nonfigurative art. Unlike the 'Concrete Art' movement in Zurich, Goodwin's work incorporates narrative and subjective elements, blending factual and fictional stories through geometric forms and hard-edge techniques across various mediums, including painting, ceramics, assemblage, spatial environments and textiles. Her 'palette nostalgia' recalls earlier decades, connecting high-art principles with everyday life narratives.Goodwin's art explores personal and collective memories, social histories, and gender stereotypes through geometric minimal abstraction, serving as a link between history and the future while challenging traditional views of painting and sculpture. Her recent Ceramic Block series extends her exploration into fired glazed clay, blurring the lines between relief sculpture and painting and imbuing ceramics with new narrative dimensions. Goodwin’s work has been widely exhibited in solo and group shows across Switzerland, Europe, and beyond, including notable exhibitions at Kunsthaus Aarau, Centre PasquArt in Biel, Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, and Kino Saito in New York. She has also participated in the 4th Industrial Art Biennale in Istria, Croatia, and Backstage Engelberg, and has shown her work with Gallery Lullin+Ferrari Zurich, Tony Wuethrich Gallery Basel, and Galerie Lange+Pult Auvernier. Her achievements have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Bogliasco Fellowship and the British Arts Council Fellowship Award. In Switzerland, she has received accolades from the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, the City and Canton of Zurich, and the Swiss Arts Council. Goodwin's work is featured in numerous public collections, including Haus Konstruktiv, Kunsthaus Aarau, Kunst Museum Olten, UBS, Credit Suisse, Swiss National Bank, Swiss Post and other institutional and private collections across Europe.Residing in Switzerland, Clare Goodwin continues to push the boundaries of abstraction, blending the past and present to create art that resonates with both historical and contemporary narratives. She is also the co-founder of the Artist Project Space - StudioK3 Zurich.Clare Goodwinwww.claregoodwin.ch
