Blackout Curtains "Spitz" by Urs August Steiner
Spitz Artist Blackout Curtain by Urs August Steiner - Extra Wide
Spitz is dedicated to the Basel social hall known as "Café Spitz", which was built from 1838 to 1840 according to plans by the architect Amadeus Merian. For the Merian Hall, part of today's Brasserie Spitz, Urs August Steiner developed a room-filling installation in 2021. This involved prints on fabric produced with the help of an old photographic printing process, the cyanotype.
The substrate used for this came from the last exposed original sandstone wall in the basement of the building. Through the exposure time and the traces of the sand grains on the paper, the past of the site was captured and made visible.
The original artwork is 3.7m in height by 3.7m in width and due to the nature of the design, curtains ordered in shorter lengths will not display the full pattern.
The new blackout curtain collection from ZigZagZurich adds style and some fun to any room, transforming original art that supports the artists directly with every product sold. Using an extra-wide luxury blackout fabric as the base cloth, we print our artist's original works on top using a special technique resulting in vibrant colors & artwork. The curtains block light coming in making them ideal for all rooms.
Each ready-made curtain panel is hand-sewn in Italy from 100cm to 500cm wide and 290cm high ( we can also make higher custom curtains ). We finish each curtain with a universal curtain tape ready for hanging directly onto curtain hooks or tracks.
The curtains are flame retardant with a matt satin finish on the front printed side and a luxurious plain satin finish on the reverse side.
