ZigZagZurich Kids – Designed for little kids and big kids
The new ZigZagZurich Kids bedding collection for big and little kids celebrates humor and colour through original illustrations, watercolors, and characters! Available now at ZigZagZurich Kids
Since our launch in 2013 working with original artists for home textiles, we decided to launch a kid’s collection of bedding, duvet covers and home textiles that is a change from the norm. As with everything from ZigZagZurich, ZigZagZurich Kids is all lovingly handmade in Italy using the finest European woven cotton with the highest standards for durability, quality and comfort.
Working with incredibly talented, silly, funny and cheerful artists and kid artists from around the globe to bring this new collection to life, the goal was to mix original artwork and design that was different from the high street, something that the big kids in us like whilst incorporating the humor of the child’s mind.
This initial kids crossover collection includes the work of Natalie Born an Illustrator and Fashion Designer based in Switzerland, graduating from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London with a degree in Fashion. Her explorations are exquisite hybrids of drawings and collages, which reflect her involvement with Fashion and Art. She meticulously manipulates these cutouts, decoratively pasting and layering with them to create beautiful rhythmical linear and graphic collaged compositions. Alphabet City is her first piece of work for this collection, drawn on receipts, train tickets and other materials to hand, composed into a comical collection of animals and letters.
Sophie Probst, a recent graduate from the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Art, has a long-standing fascination with traditional weaving and drawing, mixed with modern pattern design and coloration work. Her first designs for the ZigZagZurich kids collection include Dotty, a collage of experimental water colored circles that as in a child’s mind have their own identity and own path. Circus Life takes hand drawn illustrations of linear patterns and colors, cutting them out into animal inspired shapes that create a wonderful print. Luftibus is a celebration of colour and freedom, shapes fly and dance, imagination running free.
Robot Land is purely the work of Class 1-3 at the Havveland School in Berlin. Our brief was simple, have fun and create a world of robots and characters. Each child’s individual illustration has been carefully taken to create a collage of imagination, colour, and simply fun. One child’s interpretation of a robot can be a butterfly, a bear, something none of has ever seen or something that in fact a robot should be.
