ZigZagZurich collaborates with artists and designers, both established and new, on unique collections transformed into textiles under the direction of creative director Michele Rondelli and founders of ZigZagZurich. The new 2020 Artist Bedding Collection adds an exciting new roster of artists from around the globe. We use the highest quality European woven cottons for our bedding, not synthetic fibers, with the same quality standard of handmade Italian production we stand behind on all our ranges.
Our next roster of artists includes:
B.D. Graft
Whilst studying English literature B.D. Graft (Germany, 1988) discovered that making art was the ideal way to calm his nerves and create his own world; a practice that became somewhat of an obsession and, eventually, a profession. The therapeutic nature of using simple content, colour and composition to reflect every day life, often in a humorous way, is what B.D. Graft seeks to transfer to the observer. He doesn't want to give too much away, however – the spectator's meaning is just as important as his own. After the success of “Casso” bedding, this year he made a new design for ZigZagZurich called “Dirk” inspired by abstract shapes, collage and painting technique.

Christoffer Joergensen
Is an artist and photographer based in Zurich. He uses digital photography as a raw material to be alienated and transformed with a combination of computer programs and artisanal techniques. Tactility and sensuality are essential characteristics in his work. It’s important to him to create things that resonate with our times and that touch people on a visceral level. He received the Thames & Hudson book price for his graduating show at the Royal College of Art in London and has numerous group and solo shows around Europe. “I always wanted to touch people with my work but I never thought that they would literally be sleeping with it! There can’t be a more intimate place to put your art than on a duvet or a pillow. ZigZagZurich and I both agreed that my Grogram technique would form a great basis for the prints. Instead of laboriously cutting photographs into thin strips using a cutter and then interweaving them, as I do when making my artworks, the process was done digitally for the bedding. This allowed me to create a much finer and more intricate grid. The results, to me, have become delicate, sensuous and atmospheric.” – Christoffer Joergensen.

Fabio Almeida
Was born in Brazil and settled in the UK in the mid 1990’s where he studied painting at the City Lit Institute and Communication Art & Design at the Royal College of Arts in London. He has exhibited widely and his work is found in a number of private collections in the UK, Europe and the US. Combining references from the realms of architecture, design and art history, Fabio Almeida creates large scale collages using a variety of materials including painted and found paper, markers, bleach and letraset. His playful compositions are laced with a sense of nostalgia - his colour palette, shapes and materials alluding to a bygone era of modern optimism but tinted with the gritty realities of present day living. His bedding for ZigZagZurich is based on a painting called Four Quarters. It plays with the idea of divisions and balance within a composition, suggesting building blocks creating a perilous structure.

At times figurative, at times abstract but always in a flow: Mara Tschudi creates compositions that can be called fluid. With her prints and patterns the designer creates backpacks, facades, interiors, and more. Tschudi who calls her play with shapes and colors a love affair, works intuitively and process-oriented as well as for well-known customers such as Odlo, Kjus, Monocle and Eastpak, among others. In 2016, she set up her own design office Studio Surface Service, in Zurich. The “Mosso” bedding, is intuitive, in motion and playful. In its full abstraction the print is also a subtle nod to the meticulous art of paper cut-outs. The subdued yet confident colors attribute to “Mosso” grounded and warm character.

María Jose Benvenuto
Growing up in the mountains of Santiago, Chile, abstract artist María Jose Benvenuto moved to Australia in 2018. Migrating from the crowded streets and busy atmosphere to the quiet and calming aspects of the Northern Beaches in Sydney, led to a reconnection with nature in an entirely new way. Using gestural brushstrokes or stains across the medium, Benvenuto focuses on line and detail to build a narration of the life around her. For the bedding “The View” she was inspired by the beautiful and calm waters of Manly, her favorite place to connect with nature. Living there disconnected from the city, helps her to live a balance and calm life with her family and art.
