Soojung Park

Los Angeles-Based Artist Soojung Park works through traditional mediums as old and universal as ink and pigment, she sands and rubs shades onto a plexiglass surface, scoring horizontal lines from both front and back. The plexiglass suspends levels of transparency beneath the surface and the translucent area that is disparate from the likes of the conventional canvas.

These lines arrange the spaces in between them, while color animates layer upon layer of glass sheet: A new depth of visual experiences is brought in and out of focus. Each interaction creates expanses that are entirely unique and original.

The field is brought about by her own emotional awareness, yet it may be perceived as poetic or romantic, joyous or serene, or even simply beautiful. She experiences and asks viewers to experience, the endless perspectives reduced by the spaces between the lines.
